If you never heard of 3D secure, this is the time to start reading. Basically, it adds an extra level of security to your online transactions with not only “something you know” like the password or the pin, but also “something you own” like your phone and “something you are” like your fingerprint.

And since PayPal Pro is an on website payment method - meaning, your customers get to pay with their credit card directly on your checkout without being redirected to the paypal site, you are now required to implement the PSD2’s requirements.

Luckily, we already did that for you and it’s free, thanks to OpenCart owner Daniel Kerr and the amazing team from Cardinal Commerce and PayPal.

So let's take a look and see how to install it.

  1. First of all visit the OpenCart marketplace to download the extension. The link will be provided in the description below.
  2. Select the download link according to your OpenCart version.
  3. Now visit your OpenCart backend and go to Extensions -> Extension installer
  4. Click upload and select the previously downloaded zip file of the payment method.
  5. Wait for the download to finish successfully.
  6. Now go to Extensions -> Modules -> Payment Methods and find PayPal Pro.
  7. If it is not yet activated, click Install; then click edit.
  8. The PayPal Pro admin panel should look familiar to you with only one extra field - Cardinal Status.
  9. Enable Cardinal and three extra fields will be displayed.
  10. To obtain the Cardinal Commerce API credentials visit the create account page. The link will be provided in the description below.
  11. Once you have successfully applied for a Cardinal Commerce account and have been provided with the API credentials, you will now need to enter them into your PayPal PRO module accordingly.
  12. Set the PayPal PRO module to enabled and click save.

Ones installed and activated, your customers will be 3-D secure and your site will be PSD2 compliant.

Enjoy
